The season continues in the mecca of college baseball for some Central Georgians.

Tattnall’s Benjamin Stubbs and the Troy Trojans are still alive, Troy knocking out 2022 national champ Mississippi on Sunday.

That came two days after Stubbs got the start in the series’ first game, against West Virginia. He gave up five hits in 3.2 innings, and five runs, four earned. Stubbs fanned four and walked one.

He wasn’t involved in the decision.

Stubbs seeing action on Tuesday (1 p.m.) in a rematch with West Virginia won’t be a surprise.

His 77-pitch, 3.2-inning outing in the 7-5 loss to West Virginia was his lowest total in a start since April. In one stretch covering April and May, he threw 93, 10, 93, 90, 111, 104, and 99 pitches.

Stubbs was known for a live and quick-recovering arm in high school.

He’s gone most of the season on a week’s rest, he threw 99 pitches against Miami on May 29 in a loss and 15 pitches against Florida on June 1 in a win.

Georgia freshman pitcher Jackson Peavy of Peach County hasn’t seen action since May 16 against Auburn, his third appearance.

An inadvertent omission – apologies – from last week’s updates on Central Georgians in the Super Regionals was Upson-Lee’s Logan Spivey.

He has appeared in four games, with no decisions or saves. The 6-5, 228-pounder has thrown 1.1 innings, last going against Missouri in early May.

Spivey redshirted last year after spending his junior season at Georgia Highlands College, with 11 appearances and 10.1 innings.

His first two seasons in college were at Division II Erskine, where he went 0-2 as a freshman in nine appearances, sitting out 2023 because of elbow surgery.

Spivey earned all-region honors at Upson-Lee as a senior.
