Henley set for favorable Travelers
Russell Henley has teed off eight times in the Travelers Championship, and made seven cuts.
Only twice in seven full events has he finished outside of the top 19, including last year when he tied for second.
After blowing up with an 80 in last week’s third round at the U.S. Open, the trip to Connecticut may come just in time for the Stratford grad.
He tees off with a $20 million purse on the line in the signature event at 10:30 a.m., with Cameron Young.
Last year’s visit was filled with interesting twists and turns. He opened with a pair of 68s that bore little resemblance to each other only to march out with a 61, tying his career low.
That put him in a tie for second with Keegan Bradley behind Tommy Fleetwood.
Sunday only got more interesting throughout the day, capped when Henley dazzled with a 52-foot chip for a birdie on 18 only for Bradley to win it on 18, leaving Henley in a tie for second with Fleetwood, carding a 14-under 266.
He was 14-under when he finished tied for 19th in 2023.
Confidence on the course plus Henley’s nice rebound last Sunday with a nine-shot improvement from Saturday has Henley high on the list of favorites this week.
Henley is fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking and 15th in FedEx Cup.
