A good weekend for Houston County and coach Hopkins
Henley sweats out Open cut
Russell Henley was in pretty good company but not in a good position.
Henley was one of 11 top-50 callers hovering around the cut line Friday at the British Open, and he finished tied with 11 others at the bottom of the field advancing.
On the other hand, those 12 are only nine shots behind leader Lucas Hebert.
Henley, who tees off Saturday at 9:10 a.m. EST, shot a 1-over 71, bogeying two of the final four holes, and finished early enough for the afternoon to drag on a little.
He was even after nine, but bogeyed No. 10, courtesy of a brutal two-putt – missing a 5-footer for par - after residing in rough after his first two shots.
After two straight birdies, he doinked a 6-footer on the par-3 16, and wasn’t sharp on 18, needed three shots from within 11 yards.
Henley’s short game has been off. He’s outside the top 70 in the field in strokes gained putting, distance of putts made, scrambling, and strokes gained overall.
