Unlike a night earlier, there was no suspense in the Coastal Plain League championship winner-take-all game between Macon and Wilmington.
For Macon, there was also no O.
The Bacon were down 4-0 after 1 and put up no offensive threat en route to an 11-0 loss to the Sharks for the Coastal Plain League championship.
The hosts outhit the visitors 9-3, but oddly, both teams had eight left on base. Macon leadoff hitter Charles Cassingham walked 4 times, but nobody did much to move him around.
Wilmington knocked starter Devin Miller out after 5 batters, 3 hits, 2 walks, 2 homers, and 4 runs, all earned. Macon pitching walked 9 and fanned 6, though Wilmington wasn’t exactly dominant, with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Macon wasn’t able to overcome Sunday’s stunning loss, keyed by two mind-boggling throwing errors in the 12th that allowed the winning run to stroll in with no stress.
Macon went 30-17 in the regular season to win the West Division, then 3-3 in the postseason.
