HS FB roundup: FPD loses heartbreaker in final 2 minutes; Westfield knocks off Brookwood; John Milledge pulls away in rivalry; big wins for Tattnall, Mount de Sales, Stratford

Stratford 35, Windsor 7 (Click here for full story)

The 4A Eagles cruised to a 35-0 halftime lead over the A Knights with three rushing and two passing touchdowns. Windsor broke the shutout midway through the fourth quarter.

John Milledge 31, Brentwood 7

The standing-room only home crowd was teased by the home team, which took the first lead of the game with 4:32 left, when veteran quarterback Bayley Cobb threw a strike on a deep slant to 5-7 senior Quez Collins for a dazzling 79-yard touchdown play. Brentwood carried the lead into the second quarter, where it lasted for 8 seconds. Jamel Cooper took the handoff from occasional quarterback Asa Wall and went left for a 23-yard score to tie. And so opened the scoring gates for John Milledge, which went on to a 21-point second quarter. Cooper added a 15-yarder after a blocked punt by sophomore Amarion Shivers. Wall went in from the 2, set up in part by an unsportsmanlike flag, for a 21-7 lead with 3:32 left in the half.

The Trojans outgained the War Eagles 322-30 on the ground, while Brentwood was 10 of 15 for 135 yards. But the hosts lost two fumbles. Wall ran for 108 yards and two scores.

St. Anne Pacelli 22, FPD 21
          Cash Walker’s 6-yard TD pass to Harris Everett with 4:10 left in the game put the host Vikings up 21-14, but St. Anne-Pacelli battled back with a 28-yard run frm D.J. Colvin to get within a point with 93 seconds. In went Cam Carino with the game-winning conversion. It was tied at 7 at halftime, FPD scoring first on Dylan Reeves’ 7-yard run with 5:39 left in the first quarter. Walker hit Mason Garvin for an 8-yard score to tie it at 14 with 3:12 left in the third. FPD outgained Pacelli 167-163 on the ground, but on 12 more tries. The visitors passed for 70 yards, to 34 for the hosts. FPD was whistled for five moer more penalties than Pacelli.

Tattnall 47, Gatewood 7

          The Cavs were plagued by penalties all night long, but got going in the second half, sparked by quarterback Benjamin Burney. He threw for touchdowns of 73 yards and 57 yards to help MdS pull away from undermanned CFCA.

Briarwood 47, Trinity Christian 6
          After a scoreless first quarer, the Buccaneers stormed out to a 21-0 halftime lead with three second-quarter touchdowns. TCS got on the board in the third quarter, but was outscored 26-6 in the second half.

Westfield 33, Brookstone 28
