Henley battles bogeys with birdies
Russell Henley was off to an unspiring start, with a pair of bogeys in the first seven holes.
Things got more inspiring.
Henley hit a run of three birdies in four holes en route to a 3-under 67 in the first round of the BMW Championship in St. Louis.
That put Henley in a group of nine tied for 12th, three shots behind the five players tied for first.
The Stratford grad wasn’t far from a pretty sizzling first round.
He found the left rough on his second shot on No. 2, but missed left on an 8-footer for par.
On No. 7, he went from bunker to bunker, and his 12-footer for par was short.
Henley had a so-so start off the tee, ranking 27th I driving accuracy at 57.1 percent. But he was fifth in approach to green, and tied for sixth in putts per greens in regulation.
He’s back at it Friday at 12:18 p.m., with Jacob Bridgeman.
