Henley has another roller coaster round
Russell Henley isn’t playing consistently good golf lately, but he’s managing to play mostly successful and competitive golf along the way.
The PGA Tour’s most accurate driver – entering the weekend, anyway – hit only five of 14 fairways on Sunday and finished last in shots gained approach to the green, yet was in the hunt for a top-10 finish at the BMW Championship.
The Maconite finished in a four-way tie for 12th in the Tour’s second playoff tournament, surviving a double bogey for an even final round and 7-under tournament.
He had seven pars, six birdies, and five bogeys (and double).
Henley ended up 31st in driving accuracy at 57.14 percent for the weekend, far below his norm of 71.84 percent. The No. 8 player in shots gained putting was first for the day, but 13th for the weekend (after being five from the bottom on Saturday).
His tee shot on par-3 No. 6, the day’s toughest holes, dove into water 177 yards out of the box, drawing a penalty, and he couldn’t connected on a 13-footer for the bogey.
Henley again avoided exacerbating the day’s issues, with no consecutive bogeys, birdieing two of the next three holes after the double.
Henley tied with Akshayk Bhatia, Scottie Scheffler, and Ryo Hisatsune, each taking home $426,250, putting him less than $130,000 from the $7 million mark for the season.
