Mercer pair sweeps top Southern Conference honors
Sweeps in sports are good.
And Mercer swept, big time.
Mercer women’s basketball player Kahlia Lawrence and men’s soccer player Will Bagrou were named the Southern Conference’s female and male athletes of the year.

Another walk-off for the Braves
Ender Inciarte tied it with a bases-load triple in the eighth and Johan Camargo finished it with a walk-off homer in the ninth and the Braves bopped the Mets 7-6.
Atlanta is now 10 games over .500 again.
Pitchers Anibal Sanchez, Matt Wisler, and Dan Winkler struck out eight with two walks.

FVSU former track standouts get hall of fame nod
Lynnsey Dailey and Antoinette Oglesby are a pair of former Fort Valley State track standouts who are heading into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Hall of Fame.
Dailey won five Division II outdoor national titles in three events: 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles, and triple jump.
She took both hurdles in 2005 and 2006, and the triple jump in 2005. The 12-time All-American had the best 100 hurdles mark for three years, and it still ranks third.
Oglesby was the third woman in Division II history to win three straight triple jump titles, from 2009-11.
The eight-time outdoor All-American was runner-up as a freshman, by less than inch. The four-time SIAC outdoor champ is one of three women to be a three-time outdoor NCAA Division II champ.

Marquis Daniels to join Auburn hoops staff
Macon will have another connection to Auburn with the hiring of Marquis Daniels to the Tigers' basketball staff.
Head coach Bruce Pearl told reporters Tuesday at the SEC meetings of the hire.
Daniels is the husband of Shana Askew-Daniels, currently an assistant girls coach at Southwest, her alma mater. She played at Auburn from 1998-01, and Daniels played for the Tigers from 1999-2003.
Askew-Daniels was inducted earlier this month to the Macon Sports Hall of Fame.

A slew of Baldwin athletes signed letters of intent last Friday.
Girls track standout Brittany Trawick is headed to Troy, Keldrick Bell signed with Benedict football, and Ambria Henry is going to Piedmont for track.
Paine is the destination of Roderick Walker for track and basketball, Akirah Robinson for girls basketball, Makayla Ricks for softball, Tremaija Neal, Hezekiah Hartry, and Nysherria Braddy for track.
This Week's Honor Roll
Georgia College's dynamic duo of Charlie Hecht and Logan Mattix added to the resumes, being named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-America team.Hecht, the consensus region pitcher of the year, made the second team, and Mattix, the Peach Belt player of the year, made the third team. It's the second year in a row the Bobcats had two players so honored.
Hecht went 11-1 with a 3.03 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 104 innings. Mattix batted .400 with nine homers and 67 RBI.
