Bleckley County's boys finished the drill and kept their lead to win the GHSA Class A/Division I state track and field championship Saturday.

Meets involving Central Georgia teams were held in Albany, East Jackson, and Rome, battling assorted weather elements throughout the weekend.

The Royals finished with two individual and one relay champion, but scored points in plenty events, led by the Royals' perennial stellar performances in distances.

Bleckley County nipped B.E.S.T. by three points and Social Circle by five. That gave the Royals their first boys title since 2019.

Ryder Garrett won the 800 and 1,600 to lead Bleckley County, while Jack Harrell added a second- and fourth-place finish.

Garrett was the top point scorer in A/I boys.

Julian Council led GMC Prep's boys to a fourth-place finish in Class A/Division II boys with a trifecta, titles in the 800, 1,600, and 3,200. He took the 800 and 3,200 in 2024.

Lamar County's Makayla Watts won the A/I 200, took second in the long jump, fourth in the 100 and sixth in the high jump. She won the 100 and 200 last year.

Tayshawn Reeves of Jasper County defended his 300 meter hurdles title, in A/I.

GMC Prep’s boys finished tied for fourth in A/I with McIntosh County Academy, each with 43 points, behind winner Mitchell County’s 54 points.

Bleckley County’s boys were in first place after Day 1, with East Laurens fifth. The Royals’ girls were fourth, the only other area team in the top 5.

Veterans' Mitchell Westlund, West Laurens' Keira Davis, East Laurens' Rashund Washington, Hawkinsville's Mason Coley, Bleckley County's Garrett, and Bleckley County's 4x800 boys relay woke up Saturday as state champions.
