Who's going to win this week's Central Georgia high school football games?

          We know a little more about some teams, and we’re all still wondering about some others.

          Then there’s Houston County, Peach County, Bleckley County, Stratford, and John Milledge, plus a few others a week away from clarity.

          The upset pick – Northside over Warner Robins – was on the money, as was one of three upset watches. Mount de Sales wasn’t really threatened by Twiggs County, nor Perry by Howard, but Mary Persons did take down Rockmart, and hard.

          On the other hand, Baldwin was a double-digit underdog (17 points here, 11 by Maxwell) and gutted out a win over Dublin. Tattnall was the pick over Athens Christian – single digits here and 17 by Maxwell – and lost by a score.

          Few saw Lamar County handling Bowdon like that, or Taylor County flat manhandling Manchester.

          Yet again, another week of superb games, if you’re moseying around on a Friday night. Almost everybody in Central Georgia is less than a half hour away from a quality matchup.

4A West Laurens at No. 12 AA Cook, 1-2
          Cook – dear everybody on Cook’s schedule and streaming game, ITS NOT COOK COUNTY - has given up 107 points, albeit to ranked Swainsboro and Bleckley County and 7A Colquitt County. West Laurens better not get in another early hole.

5A Perry, 1-2 at No. 6T 3A Northeast, 1-1 (Thompson)
          No, Perry’s romp over Howard doesn’t mean the Perry of 2024 and before is back, but it was solid. There’s momentum there. And the question of Northeast avoiding very avoidable penalties remains. The Raiders may have more weapons, just as they did against Warner Robins, and the fourth quarter again will be a clincher.

No. 2 AA Fitzgerald, 2-0, at No. 13T AA Dodge County, 1-1
          Talk about a burly ol’ Central/South Georgia showdown. Can Dodge County’s defense be disciplined enough against a single-wing and Wing-T offense?

A Manchester, 1-2, at No. 4 A Macon County, 2-0
          Timing is notable. Macon County was off – and no doubt hearing a lot of good things about the burly start – and Manchester rebounds after a thumping by Taylor County. Put the two together, and …

          Bulloch is off a nice road loss at John Milledge, and Westfield rolled over SW Georgia, as expected. Here comes the Hornets biggest test so far.
