HS FB: Houston County loses wild shootout; Veterans gets road W, Warner Robins with epic L; shutouts for Jones County, Putnam County, FPD; Northeast pops Perry, cruises for Dublin, John Milledge

Class 6A
Central-Carrollton 73, Houston County 66, OT
Central-Carrollton got a 10-yard touchdown pass on third and 6 on the first possession of overtime, and then forced Houston County into a third-and-20 situation, getting the game-clinching interception near the goal line. Central led 21-10 after one and 31-24 at halftime, the Bears taking a brief 24-21 lead in the second on Austin Stinson’s 70-yard touchdown run with 6:38 left in the first half. Houston County won the third quarter 28-21, and they both scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Houston County trailed 66-52, but tied it on another long Stinson run and a short one, the second coming after an interception.
It was Houston County’s highest total since beating Northside 63-22 On Oct. 4, 2024, the same season the Bears topped that weeks later with a 69-48 win over Clarke Central. It was the most points given up by the Bears since a 63-42 loss late in the 2012 season.
The Central person doing the Scoretracker updates didn’t get the difference between Central’s No. 0 and Houston County’s No. 0, Stinson, and misnamed Stinson throughout. Saturday update: Stinson ran for six touchdowns and 411 yards.
Veterans 22, Forsyth Central 6
Warhawk fans can mark the date down as a Friday night in which Veterans was the only team, public or private, in Houston County to win. Veterans led 7-6 at halftime, and scored on the ground early in the third quarter, adding a clinching score and conversion a few minutes into the fourth quarter to improve to 2-1.
Westlake 42, Northside 14
The Eagles were in a tie game through three quarters only for Westlake to get hot and pull away. It was a 28-14 game with 3:26 left in the fourth, and the Lions poured it on.
Class 5A
Jones County 35, Burke County 0
The Greyhounds got their first win in style, on the road against a top10 3A team. They led 21-0 at halftime en route to their first shutout since Game 3 last year, 27-0 over Hampton. They capped the scoring early in the fourth quarter with a fumble return for a touchdown by Nathan Wilson.
Newton 70, Warner Robins 14
It was 37-0 after one, and 64-0 at halftime, the state’s No. 4 (composite) 7A rolling. It’s unofficially the most points allowed in Demon history. The Demons ended last season with a 64-0 loss to Cartersville.
Class 4A
Cook 6, West Laurens 0
Not only was it a stunningly low-scoring game between good teams, nobody scored a touchdown. Cook took the lead with a 21-yard field goal about two minutes into the third quarter, and added another one midway through the fourth. But it’s not even West Laurens’ lowest-scoring game overall in too long, the Raiders falling to Dodge County 3-0 on Sept. 2, 2016, West Laurens ranked in 4A and the Indians ranked in AA.

GIAA Brookstone 58, Central 0
Dublin 33, Washington County 7
Dublin turned a 7-7 game midway through the first quarter into a second-half rout, taking over after leading 14-7 at halftime. The Irish rolled to a 346-133 advantage in rushing yards and 376-143 in total offense only four more plays. Dublin was 5 for 9 on third down to 2 for 12 for Washington County. Jamarcus Knight ran 9 times for 99 yards and a score, while Travion Bostic and Ryland Yates each had 71 yards, Yates scoring twice. Logan Poole’s 71-yard TD run accounted for more than half of WACO’s rushing yardage, and it was his only carry. The Irish capped the night with a 36-yard run from Will Wallace with 26 seconds left, a full quarter after going up 26-7 on Knight’s 29-yard run.
Northeast 58, Perry 40 (Click here for full story)
It was a close game after a quarter, and then, not so much, Northeast turning a 13-7 lead into a 31-13 halftime advantage. The teams tied 27-27 in the second half, but Northeast had a 30-point lead in the third and fourth quarters. Unofficially, it’s the first time Perry has given up 50 points to a lower-classification team in program history. And unofficially, it’s the first time Northeast has scored 50 or more against a higher-classification team. Jordan Wiggins accounted for eight scored and more than 350 passing yards.
Westside 35, Southwest 24 (Click here for full story)
Southwest led early, and Westside answered to take a double-digit lead. The Patriots fought back to within four before the Seminoles took a little control late. Westside QB Quarterback Jaiden Stephens put forth a solid effort on a night when the run game couldn’t crack 100 yards for the Seminoles. The junior completed 13 of 2 for 234 yards. Southwest’s T’Korrian Davis had a night, with 131 yards on 14 carries and a 35-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Class AA
ACE Charter 42, Pike County 21
The Gryphons led from the start and doubled up the Pirates most of the game. Pike County pulled within 21-14 midway through the third quarter, but a rushing score late made it a 28-14 game. ACE gave up 218 rushing yards, but only 17 through the air.
Bleckley County 42, ECI 7
A big second quarter put the undefeated Royals in control with a 28-7 halftime lead. Zyion Love broke the 7-7 tie with a 24-yard score early in the second quarter, Brody Fleming connecting with Landry Nobles for a short TD pass midway through the quarter. Fleming hit Love for another short score in the final two minutes of the half.
Fitzgerald 25, Dodge County 14
Putnam County 31, Oglethorpe County 0
The War Eagles put it away with 21 third-quarter points, and their second shutout in three games this season. Putnam County, 3-0 for the first time since 2021, scored first on a blocked punt and short return near the end of the first quarter, adding a 20-yard Zavion Swain field goal in the final minute of the half. Hayden Williams’ 6-yarder a few minutes into the third quarter sealed it.

FPD 34, Pinewood 0
The Vikings’ second shutout of the season was easier than the first (13-0 over Deerfield-Windsor) but also came on the road. FPD had three shutouts in 2024. The defense held the Patriots to 41 yards on 31 rushes, and 10 yards passing on 3 completions. Meanwhile, FPD’s Cash Walker completed 12 of 23 passes for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns, to Mason Garvin and Cason Chatfield. FPD ran 29 times for 173 yards with four Vikings getting at least five carries, Harris Everitt leading with 67 yards. FPD scored in every quarter, closing out with 15 fourth-quarter points.
Mount de Sales 36, Robert Toombs 6
The 5-0 Cavs have outscored opponents 138-26.
Whitefield 35, Stratford 26
The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season on the road against a GHSA team.
Strong Rock 42, Tattnall 16
The Patriots led 30-3 at halftime. Angelo Bellamy was 17 of 31 for 187 yards, 2 scores and 2 interceptions for Tattnall, which got 90 rushing yards from Micah Clyde and 108 receiving yards from Champ Price.
John Milledge 49, Loganville Christian 7
The passing game awakened for its best night of the season, Nathan Snow going for 148 yards, and Asa Wall hauling in 196 of the Trojans’ 212 passing yards. He caught TD passes of 32, 84, and 64 yards, adding a 4-yard scoring run to get the Trojans going. Jamel Cooper had 89 rushing yards, 65 coming on a TD run.

Brentwood 48, Trinity Christian 20
The War Eagles improved to 3-2 by marching out to a 41-7 halftime lead en route to their third game of at least 42 points.
Gatewood 35, Southland 21
The Gators led 21-7 at halftime, and won the fourth quarter 14-7 to seal it for their first win.
Briarwood 26, Piedmont 14
Windsor 40, Sherwood 13
A 20-0 second quarter got the Knights going to the easy win and their second straight 40-point game.
