Games of the Week
Stockbridge, 4-1/3-1, at Jones County, 3-2/2-2
Three teams are 3-1 in 2-4A, and another five are 2-2. And this is one of two 3-1 vs. 2-2 games. Jones County will have a home-field advantage over every region team, and will need it in such a crammed collection. Whoever can defend the pass better and get an edge in the run game will win.
TSR pick: Jones County by 4 (mild upset special)

Mary Persons, 3-1/1-1, at Upson-Lee, 3-2/1-2
The Knights are in a must-win mode only to compete for a home playoff game, but they need some momentum after having to storm back last week against Whitewater only to let the lead and game slip away at the end. Mary Persons has memories of last year’s game, which came a few days after the Bulldogs had to forfeit three wins, thanks to an Upson-Lee administrator (now former) sharing info with the GHSA about an ineligible player. Over-under on 15-yard unsportsmanlikes is 5.
TSR pick: Upson-Lee by 2
No. 8 Dublin, 4-1/4-0, at No. 6 Northeast, 4-1/4-0
Against the wing-T, and especially against Dublin’s wing-T, every day of preparation counts. A lot. Having one less day? It matters. On the other hand, Dublin wouldn’t have minded an extra day to prepare for a Northeast offense substantially different than last year, and one that’s more versatile than most of the Irish opponents. The Raiders have confidence from last year’s battle in which Dublin was the better team, but couldn’t put Northeast away. The difference? If Northeast can play fundamental defense and avoid the weekly five-yard penalties parade …
TSR pick: Northeast by 3
Stratford, 5-0, at John Milledge, 4-1
A quality showdown on the shores of John Milledge Academy Lake in northwest Milledgeville should be home to a a capacity crowd, what with two of the favorites to reach Class 4A and 3A championship games. JMA has the top college prospect in TE/LB Asa Wall, and a bigger threat at quarterback in Northeast transfer Lewis Cheney, but do the physical Trojans have the speed to keep up with Tyler Stephens, who will crack 1,000 rushing yards tonight? Expect physicality and some explosiveness on both sides.
