HS FB: Perry handles Jones County; Rutland rolls; Dublin passes up Swainsboro; Macon County stopped in OT; Windsor comes back to beat Gatewood

Class 5A
Perry 45, Jones County 20
          The Panthers (3-4/2-1) turned  in the kind of night expected at some point this season, taking charge early and keeping it, They took a 21-7 lead after one and went up by another score to open the third quarter on a 99-yard touchdown pass.

Class 4A
Spalding 22, Upson-Lee 0
          The Knights suffered their third straight shutout of the season. Spalding took a 15-0 first-quarter lead on a short pass and short run.

Harlem 20, West Laurens 17
          The Raiders (3-4/2-1) took a 10-0 lead on Kaden Bloodsaw’s short run and Duggan Malone’s field goal. Harlem (5-2/3-0) went up 13-10 lead with two touchdowns within about four minutes in the third quarter, the Bulldogs adding needed insurance with 3:20 left after blocking a punt inside the West Laurens 10. The Raiders managed a short TD pass with just under a minute left, but Harlem finished it.

Class 3A
Callaway 28, Lamar County 21
          It was tied at 7, 14, and 21, the Trojans (4-3/2-2) ying it for the final time with six minutes left. Callaway (4-3/3-1) got a 10-yard touchdown run up the middle inside the final 10 seconds to stun the hosts.

Rutland 55, Southwest 32
          The Hurricanes hit the 50-point mark for the first time since a 50-21 win over ACE Charter on Oct. 2, 2020. It’s their biggest margin of victory since thumping Kendrick 41-14 late in the 2023 season.

Class AA

Dodge County 49, East Laurens 21
          The Indians cruised to a 35-0 halftime lead against the Falcons, who were unable to get any momentum from last week’s win at ACE Charter. Dodge County has scored 55, 38, and 49 points in its last three games.

Putnam County 42, Glenn Hills 22
          The War Eagles’ offense stayed on its hot streak, having scored 56, 44, and 42 points in its last three games, improving to 6-1 and 3-1.

Social Circle 10, Jasper County 7
          The Redskins led 7-0 until a field goal with two minutes left. But Jasper County rallied to score on Wailer Sands’ 4-yard pass to J.T. Robinson with 21 seconds left. Social Circle sealed it by recovering the onside kick, ending Jasper County’s 3-game winning streak.

Dublin 27, Swainsboro 12

          The Irish opened up the passing game, and Ryalnd Yates delivered, completed 5 of 8 passes for 160 yards – season highs - to lead the Irish, who never trailed. They led 14-6 at halftime, and managed a 23-yard scoring run from Jaydon McRae in the final half-minute of the third quarter. Swainsboro scored midway through the fourth quarter to pull within 9, but Dontavious Cannon added icing in the final seconds. Dublin won the run-game battle by 20 yards and the passing battle by 25. Swainsboro lost three fumbles, but got 168 yards on 20 carries from Kyle Johnson. Dublin spread out its run game yardage.

Central-Talbotton, 3-3/0-2, at Crawford County, 0-6/0-2, PPD

Wilkinson County 14, GMC 12

Glascock County 49, Hancock Central 14

          A 28-8 first quarter put Glascock County in control, and it held Hancock Central scoreless until the fourth quarter.

Schley County 26, Macon County 20, OT

          Macon County tied it with 1:24 left in regulation, after which some players had to be separated very briefly. Schley County got to Macon County’s 42, and was gifted 15 yards on a personal foul, only to fail on fourth and 9 at the 26 with 12.7 seconds left, sending it to overtime. The Bulldogs were stopped on their first OT possession on fourth and 7 reverse at the 13. Schley County ended Macon County’s undefeated season on its third play, a 7-yard run. Jeremiah Johnson ran for 170 yards on 37 carries – including the game-winner, to lead Schley County.

Johnson County 56, Twiggs County 0

GIAA

John Milledge 49, Tattnall 7
          Five players got in the John Milledge scoring column, with two touchdowns each from Parker Soltay and Asa Wall. Nathan Snow completed 7 of 8 for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two went to Soltay, from 15 and 18 yards, another to Wall for 56 yards. Wall added a 20-yard run, John Millege getting a 2-yard run from Abe Gainous and a 15-yarder from Jamel Cooper. Wall ran for 121 yards.

Stratford 45, Mount de Sales 0
          The suspense was over fairly early as the Eagles rolled on homecoming. Tucker and Jett Johnston connected on a 39-yard score less than two minutes into the game, Morris Butler going in from 4 yards out six minutes later, with a safety in between. Butler added a 7-yarder with two minutes left in the half.

Athens Christian 42, Piedmont 0

Windsor 30, Gatewood 17
          The Knights knocked off the recent three-time (2018-19-20) state champs after falling behind 14-7 at halftime. Windsor tied it on the ground about three minutes into the third quarter, then took the lead with about that much time left in the quarter. The Gators got a field goal a few minutes into the fourth quarter, but Knights added insurance with another touchdown with about four minutes left.
