LaGrange 28, Mary Persons 21
The Bulldogs turned in one of their best efforts of the season with a good comeback after a 14-0 halftime hole against the composite No. 5 team in the state. Mac Nelson’s 21-yard pass to Daniel Jungberg got the Bulldogs on the board with about four minutes left in the third, and they tied it on Kaiden King’s short run two minutes into the fourth quarter. But LaGrange struck quickly on the ensuing possession and quickly regained the lead. Mary Persons battled back to tie it when workhorse CJ Banks scored midway through the fourth. But the Grangers’ QB Dylan Barber kept for a short scoring run with 1:29 left for the game-winner. Mary Persons’ chances ended with a deflected pass on fourth and long from inside its 30.

John Milledge 34, FPD 17 (Click here for full story)
Banged-up FPD was with a freshman quarterback who hadn’t thrown a varsity pass, and then lost another two-way stalwart in addition to its starting QB/DB, yet took a 17-14 lead early in the third quarter. The Trojans didn’t flinch, riding the legs of junior Jamel Cooper, owner of an ability to power, cut, and burst. He went 45 yards on the first two plays of the next drive, and went in from the 3 two plays after Lewis Cheney hit Asa Wall for 23 yards on third and 8. That put John Milledge, which won four straight state titles from 2019-2012, up 21-17. The Trojans got it back after a three and out, and moved it 77 yards on 11 plays with Cheney softly dropping it over the middle to an open Parker Saltay for a 15-yard score with 12 seconds left in the third. Cooper ran for 172 yards on 18 carries, and FPD freshman quarterback Cash Walker was 11-of-16 night for 144 yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers.
